Personal accident and sickness insurance for tradies.
If an injury or illness stops you working, personal accident and sickness insurance can pay you a weekly benefit while you recover, depending on the policy.
What is personal accident and sickness insurance?
Personal accident and sickness insurance can pay a weekly benefit if an accidental injury or an illness leaves you unable to work and a medical practitioner certifies that you’re unfit for work. Benefits are paid for the period set out in the policy, after any waiting period.
Why trade business owners consider it
- Your business relies on you being able to work
- An injury doesn’t have to happen on the job: a game of sport on the weekend or a job around the house can put you out of action for weeks
- If you’re self-employed, workers’ compensation may not cover you
- Your business bills keep coming while you recover
What cover can include
Weekly income benefit
A weekly benefit if you can’t work because of an injury, an illness or both, depending on the cover you choose.
At work and outside work
Some policies cover you at work and outside work, including while you’re overseas.
Death and disablement
Some policies offer an optional lump sum benefit for death or permanent disablement.
Business expenses
Some policies offer optional cover to help with ongoing business expenses while you can’t work.
Benefits and optional extras differ between insurers and policies.
