Business reviews and quotes

What does a business review involve?

You tell us about your business, we look at your current insurance, we talk you through what we found, and you decide what to do next. Our initial assessment is free, and there’s no obligation to go ahead with anything we recommend. Request a free business review.

When should I review my insurance?

When your business changes: taking on staff, buying vehicles or equipment, doing different or bigger jobs, growing your turnover, moving premises, or coming up to renewal.

What do I need to get a quote?

It helps to have your ABN, the work your business does, your number of employees and approximate turnover, details of vehicles and equipment, any contract insurance requirements and your claims history. Request a quote.

Is a quote an offer of insurance?

No. A request for a quote is not an offer or confirmation of insurance.

Why do I need to give accurate information?

Insurers will ask about your business and any past claims. It’s important your answers are accurate and complete, as this can affect your cover.

Public liability insurance

What is public liability insurance?

It can help protect your trade business against the costs of a third-party claim for personal injury or property damage arising from your business activities. Read more.

Do I need public liability insurance?

For a lot of jobs, you’ll be asked to show proof of public liability insurance, and contracts often require it. A broker can help you work out what applies to your business.

What’s the difference between public liability and products liability?

Public liability relates to injury or property damage caused by your work. Products liability relates to injury or property damage caused by items you manufacture, supply or install. For trade businesses, the two are often arranged together.

What is a certificate of currency?

A document from your insurer confirming your policy is current and showing its key details. Head contractors and clients often ask for one before you start work.

Do subcontractors need their own insurance?

Yes. Subcontractors need their own insurance, and we insure subcontractors the same way as any other trade business.

Does public liability cover injuries to my employees?

No. Injuries to employees are usually covered by workers’ compensation insurance.

Tools of trade insurance

What is tools of trade insurance?

It’s usually arranged as general property cover, which covers portable items you take from place to place, such as tools and work laptops. Read more.

Are my tools covered if they’re stolen from my ute or van?

It depends on the policy. Some policies have exclusions for tools taken from vehicles, or conditions that must be met for a claim. A broker can check what your policy says.

Do I need to list every tool?

Not necessarily. Unspecified items may be covered up to a per-item limit, while higher-value items may need to be listed individually as specified items.

Does my home and contents insurance cover my work tools?

Home and contents policies may limit or exclude tools and equipment used for business. Check your policy, or ask a broker to review it.

General information only. What a policy covers depends on its wording, limits and exclusions. A broker will review your business before recommending any cover.
